What is the Student Visa (F1)?
The Student Visa (F1) is a non-immigrant visa that allows foreign citizens to study in the United States at an approved educational institution. This visa is designed for those who wish to pursue full-time academic studies in colleges, universities, or language schools.
Requirements for the Student Visa (F1)
To apply for the F1 Visa, certain requirements must be met, including:
- Acceptance at an Approved Educational Institution: You must be admitted to an educational institution certified by the SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program).
- Proof of Financial Capability: You must demonstrate that you have sufficient financial resources to cover tuition and living expenses during your stay in the U.S.
- Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20): The educational institution will provide you with Form I-20, which you must submit as part of your visa application.
- Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for the duration of your studies and for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the U.S.
Application Process
- Obtain the Form I-20: Receive the Form I-20 from the educational institution where you have been accepted.
- Pay the SEVIS Fee: Pay the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) fee and obtain the payment receipt.
- Fill out the DS-160 Form: Complete the DS-160 form online, which is the first step in the visa application process.
- Schedule an appointment at the embassy or consulate: Make an appointment at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate for an interview.
- Attend the interview: Bring all necessary documentation, including your passport, Form I-20, DS-160 confirmation, SEVIS payment receipt, and evidence of financial capacity.

Duration and Extension of the F1 Visa
- Visa Validity: The F1 visa is valid for the duration of your study program, plus an additional 60-day period to prepare for your departure from the U.S.

- On-Campus Employment: You are allowed to work on the campus of your educational institution while maintaining your student status.
- Off-Campus Employment: You may apply for authorization to work off-campus in certain cases, such as internships related to your field of study (Optional Practical Training - OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT).

He has experience in Immigration Law abroad as a level 2 volunteer, under the supervision of a qualified and licensed attorney from the organization NOMAS (No More A Stranger Foundation). His extensive experience as a participant in Work and Travel (J1), academic student (F1), and now in the process of obtaining U.S. residency through the EB-3 visa has given him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by immigrants. This has motivated him to create TOTALVISA Consulting LLC, a safe space dedicated to providing support and guidance to immigrants seeking to maintain legal status in the United States.
